Maxis Communications, Telekom Malaysia Unveil Respective 3G Plans

Ericsson recently announced that it has secured a deal with Malaysian mobile operator Maxis Communications, whereby Ericsson will help the latter to expand and upgrade its WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) / HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) network. Pursuant to the deal, Ericsson will provide and deploy radio access network equipment for Maxis. It is expected that this network update will allow Maxis to provide improved wireless broadband services to residential clients in major cities and towns of mainland Malaysia. Implementation of the network expansion has started and is slated for completion by the end of 2007.

Meanwhile, Telekom Malaysia also announced a plan to invest a total of 1.5 billion Ringgit (US$434.4 million; US$1 = 3.45 Ringgit) over the next three years in 3G network upgrade and deployment.
